Last time 2KBABY worked with us, he was down in the dirty south, spitting his "Mad" rhymes into a mic while sporting a Brooklyn Nets shirt with Kyrie Irving's name on the back. It was the fall of 2020, lockdown time, and the Atlanta rapper (who was doing some zig-zagging to LA for a while) was right between his 'Pregame Rituals' debut and its follow-up, 'First Quarter.' The way he swung his phrases around, making them feel like one long, languid sentence, was unique, and it remains so. On his new 'Scared 2 Love' album, it feels like every line the 22-year-old Christian Michael Todd delivers helps him get a heavy weight off his chest. There's a pop feel to the tracks, something that's long-floated through the rapper's work, and it broadens the impact of his bedrock hip-hop stance. When he came into our ctrl studio for a run through "Fireworks" and "Mood Swings," he was in top form. Watch 2K roll through the rhymes, burning his own particular path towards eloquence.
