Kylie Morgan - Cuss A Little | An exclusive live performance for Vevo DSCVR ARTISTS TO WATCH 2021, an annual series highlighting those that are shaping the future of music.
When we were discussing Kylie Morgan for inclusion in Artists To Watch 2021, someone said sure, her voice and songcraft were a great one-two punch, but more importantly her personality was irresistible. Quite correct. Long story short, Morgan is a charmer. You can tell by the way that personality strengthens her tunes. From “Boys Girl” to “Break Things,” there’s a big dose of charisma fueling the music. Her co-conspirator Shane McAnally - a veteran tunesmith with plenty of hits - has said he recognized a certain “sound” that Morgan exudes, and he’s not talkin’ about the way she tunes her guitar. He’s talkin’ personal essence. You can see it leaping from the “Break Things” video as she strolls down the sidewalk issuing a warning: she ain’t afraid to come on strong. Maybe this self-assurance springs from the focus that Morgan’s had since her Oklahoma childhood. At 12 she told her mom she wanted to be a country singer, and the family said sure, go for it. The process began: karaoke concerts, regional festivals, and at 15, the start of several forays into Music City. After-school writing sessions in her bedroom honed her way with words, one of her current strong suits. Recognition from E! TV’s ‘Opening Act,’ trickled into the CMA’s ‘Who New To Watch’ into CMT’s ‘Next Women of Country.’ When people hear her, they like her. That was proven on opening slots for Kip Moore and others. These days the 25-year-old is amped to have more of her music heard. Recent tracks remind that she has a way of catering to the renegade side of things. “I feel like a lot of girls haven’t been able to have those songs that they think ‘that’s me,’” she’s said. Once a gymnast, Morgan is now a yoga instructor (check her yoga faves playlist on Spotify) leading a ‘Namaste at Home’ class during these pandemic months. Her ATW 2021 romp through “SHOULDA” and “Cuss a Little” has all that flair her fans love. Bet you hear what they hear.
