During the pandemic's height last summer, we collabed with Calboy to capture an at-home performance of “Holy Water.” the lead track from his ‘Long Live the King’ EP. Turned out to be light work. So light, in fact, that the Chicago rapper cuddled his new puppy Lady in his arms while spittin' like the pro he is. Ever since, Calboy's life has been a series of ups and downs. A particularly sharp thorn was the loss of his friend, cousin and collaborator, King Von. A prominent rose has been the continuation of his personal perseverance and commercial success. His “Ten Toes Down” and “Miseducation” singles are great examples of those victories. For the latter track, he linked up with a hero: Lil Wayne. For our Ctrl pieces, he handled both joints solo, and created a nonchalant aura that’d make Weezy proud.
