Healy raps and sings. He pens poetic lyrics. But most of all, Healy sets a mood. The Memphis native’s spin on alt-R&B has drawn listeners into his emotional landscape since the arrival of 2017’s ‘Subluxe,' a debut that arrived with a vibe that’s chill, self-reflective, and a little bit melancholy. Pretty impressive for a guy who was working on a doctorate in physical therapy at the University of Tennessee at the time. Its success pushed Healy to choose healing with music over healing in a clinic, and move to Los Angeles. Finding footing in a new city for a new career can be overwhelming. But Healy was inspired by SoCal, and his brand of introspective songwriting thrived. That’s why much of ‘Tungsten,’ feels like a kaleidoscope of trepidatious moments. Over an ethereal beat, “Nikes On,” his sophomore album's breakout single, contemplates how fast time flies - almost like it’s wearing track shoes. “I like to let life and nature leave their inflections on music,” he’s said. “And I really go with my gut.” We’re happy we went with our gut by choosing Healy to join our DSCVR ranks.
