Michele Nobler - Passacaglia

I am playing "Passacaglia", one of the best song of my piano album "Glass Boxes", inside the Cathedral of San Leopardo in Osimo (Marche, Italy).
"Passacaglia" is a rather dramatic emotional piece, it is inspired by the theme of classical passacaglia revisited in a neoclassical/modern key.
During the composition of this piece, I reflected on the meaning of passacaglia: the name derives from Spanish and means "to pass the calle", that is, the road, a term that reveals the popular origin of wandering musicians.
So I remained faithful to the basic principle of the passacaglia form, that is, maintaining a main theme (tenor) around which continuous variations develop. Naturally I reduced everything to a shorter and more usable form for more contemporary modern listening: the result is a rather cinematic piece. Given the countless organ compositions on the passacaglia theme, I took advantage of the idea by inserting a small cameo on the organ only on the main theme at the beginning and end of the piece!
About the album title "Glass Boxes", it is intended as a metaphor for feelings that can be seen and felt but not touched. This inspired the basic idea for the album pieces of music, which range between different moods and also between different writing styles.
I imagined glass houses on the bed of the sea, when the tide goes out and gives way to the big beach.
Inside the houses, people live, but are sometimes prisoners when the tide rises. They can only go out when the sea is low...
And so are their emotions.
In this context, I imagined the "Passacaglia" (passing through the calle) dancing with a small musical instrument on a wooden walkway from the beach to the ocean bed... and the music flows!
