Sam Williams - Glasshouse Children. An exclusive performance for Vevo DSCVR, the channel for the best in new music.
Legacy. Tragedy. Perseverance. Much of Sam William’s music career has been marked by historic factors. Being the son of Hank Williams Jr. and the grandson of country music icon Hank Williams carries an outsized gravitas, especially in Nashville, where young Sam resides. Instead of shying away from his legendary lineage, he embraces it. “A legacy doesn’t mean anything if you’re not carrying it with truth and integrity,” he’s wisely said. Released earlier this year, his acoustic ballad “Can’t Fool Your Own Blood” ruminates on that hard truth. It’s not just familial patriarchs that Sam seeks to honor with his music, there’s his late sister Katie, too. “The World: Alone” was written before his younger sibling’s tragic death last year and its lyrics have taken on deeper meaning since her passing: “I was gonna show you the world/it was supposed to be you and me/now I gotta go it alone.” With his ‘Glasshouse Children’ album due on August 20, Sam came into our studio with a sparkle in (and under) his eye. Making great use of cello and violin, these performances of “The World: Alone” and the record's title track ended up being absolutely epic. Indeed, a special talent surges in his blood.
