Arlo Parks is at full strength on her sophomore album, ‘My Soft Machine.’ Arriving last summer, its title hints at the poet-singer tiptoeing the uneasy balance beam of human experience. On the one hand, our bodies (“soft machines”) feel everything between hurt and love. “I wish I was bruise-less,” she shares on the album's curt tone-setting intro, “I wish I was seven and blameless.” On the other hand, Arlo knows that these kind of thoughts are a reaction to pain.
