Julieta Venegas es una fuerza avasalladora dentro de la música latina. Con más de 27 años de carrera, la cantautora mexicana no sólo ha sido galardonada con 10 Latin GRAMMY, sino que también ha fungido como activista a favor de los derechos de la mujer en México y Latinoamérica. En su más reciente disco, ‘Tu Historia’, Venegas toma un paso hacia atrás, se despega del mainstream y toma como pie forzado las tradiciones y el pasado para forjar, a través de sus composiciones, un futuro robusto y lleno de esperanza. “Son diferentes canciones que tienen que ver con todo — amistad, amor, desamor”, dice la acordeonista. Durante su paso por Sevilla, Julieta llegó hasta la Casa Palacio Pickman para grabar versiones acústicas de “Caminar Sola” y “Dime la Verdad”, ambas canciones de su último disco. Inspirada por poetas sudamericanos como Selva Almada y Raúl Zurita, “Caminar Sola” es la historia de dos mujeres que son acechadas durante la noche, mientras que “Dime la Verdad” sigue a Julieta en busca de honestidad.

Julieta Venegas is an all-encompassing force within Latin music. With a storied career that spans more than 27 years and includes genres from ska, rock and regional Mexican, the singer-songwriter has not only been awarded 10 Latin GRAMMYs for her musical and lyrical prowess. Venegas has also turned into a women’s rights activist in Mexico and Latin America, using her platform to call out gender-based violence. On her most recent album, ‘Tu Historia,’ Venegas takes a step back, distances herself from the mainstream and uses her past and cultural traditions to imagine a rich future full of hope. “These songs deal with everything –friendship, love, heartbreak,” she says. During her time in Seville, Julieta filmed stripped down versions of album favorites “Caminar Sola” and “Dime la Verdad” at Casa Palacio Pickman in the city. Inspired by South American poets Selva Almada and Raúl Zurita, “Caminar Sola” is the story of two women facing danger while walking alone at night, while “Dime la Verdad” sees a loving Julieta in search of honesty in a sea of doubt.
