How do you know that you’re moving forward when you’re first starting out a career? You clock the number of invites you get from established colleagues. Just a theory, but if it’s true, Brray is definitely making moves. The Puerto Rican reggaetonero with the tough voice and deep street cred sounds like a boss even though he’s just gettin’ started. Bad Bunny, Zion, Myke Towers, Darell, Jon Z, Mariah Angeliq, Nio Garcia, Natti Natasha, Chencho - his list of previous collabs bends and stretches like the highway leading through the mountains from San Juan to Ponce. The regional recognition the 29-year-old earned early on has been impressive for a few years now, and these days that local shine is turning into wider acclaim. That’s him standing shoulder to shoulder with Rauw Alejandro on his latest track, “Te Pue' Cuida.” The strapping rapper/singer has a commanding presence - the breakfast cereal and jewelry store scenes stick in your mind long after the new video has ended. Once you see Brray in action, you won’t forget him. Ditto for immersing yourself in his music. 2016’s ‘ABUNDANCIA’ was his official debut album, but everyone’s framing the new ‘Err Bambini’ as the true kick-off to his global career. With booming beats and that fierce vocal character, it definitely makes a statement. You expect the sound of a street rapper to push you around a bit, and from “Talk 2 Me” with Ñejo and De La Ghetto, to “No Me Canso” with Nicky Jam, ‘Err Bambini’ does just that. Turning to music after a childhood of playing sports (an injury sidelined him), the singer got serious about grabbing the mic when he connected with producer Young Martino in 2014. A couple years later he leveled-up, joining Álvaro Díaz to jump on the remix of Bunny’s “Pa’ que le de.” But here’s a dude who doesn’t need much help to create a ferocious vibe. Check the way he prowls the set in our DSCVR Artists To Watch 2022 of “Te Pue’ Cuidar” and an inventive medley performance of “No Eres Tú, Soy Yo & Uy Kieto,” and you understand quick: don’t mess with Brray.
