“Stonechild” by Friendship Commanders - A song written about the death of Stonechild Chiefstick on July 3, 2019. Stonechild was a 39-year-old Chippewa Cree man who was killed by a white police officer in front of many community members who were gathered for the 3rd of July fireworks display in Poulsbo, WA. After he was killed, they held the fireworks anyway. He was a son, a brother, father of five, a member of the Suquamish Tribal community, and a human being. We tell you this story because it should be heard. His name should be known and spoken aloud. We stand in protest of his stolen life and in solidarity with his family and community. We are honored to be joined by Cassy Fowler on the track, who speaks a powerful message in Lushootseed on behalf of Stonechild’s family.
