Lee Vasi’s “Slow Motion (Loca)” visual accompanies a sound that Lee describes as ATLatinx R&B. Her video opens in Naguabo, PR at the Malecón de Naguabo—where she traces her Puerto Rican heritage—and brings us to Lee Street In Atlanta, Georgia along with an image of a Dominican flag. Her heritage is at the center of this video and the core of her motivations as an artist. Throughout the video, Lee celebrates the versatility of Black womanhood as she changes her hairstyles and looks with every frame. The Afrolatina of Puerto Rican, Dominican, and African American heritage aims to promote the positive representation of the Black Latinx experience through her music and visuals. Another central theme of the visual is joy and the Diasporic connection to land that bonds Black and Brown people. Lee’s sound is a reflection of these experiences that often coexist side by side, being brought together, and it shows in its visual representation.
